Cottages of Idlewild

A new affordable housing organization in Wake County, Raleigh Area Land Trust (RALT), had a vision for impacting the community by offering affordable home ownership. RALT created a plan but struggled to find the land to offer his first products to the market.

In order to accomplish this vision, RALT partnered with Haven to help prepare the content to submit a response to an RFP from the City of Raleigh to recieve a piece of land for $1 in exchance for preserving long term affordable housing. RALT and Haven were selected for the land and Haven offered a clear plan for how to turn the project into a reality. Haven’s Unique Design-Build approach offered clarity throughout the process of designing, budgeting, permitting and building the units.

The end result is 18 for-sale units spread accross duplexes and a single family home. RALT’s land trust model is structured to optimize initial and long-term affordability for the life of the homes. Each home is designed to meet rigorous SystemVision energy and indoor air quality requirements as well as the City of Raleigh’s Community Development Departments Standards for universal design and high-quailty, durable, and low maintenance construction. Now people in Raleigh will have a chance to purchase a home for the first time in the life, something they never thought possible.
