Drew Helm, NAR
Executive Director

With a background in banking and finance, primarily focused on real estate, Drew leads Haven’s financial operations as well as client relationships, project management, and real estate activities for the organization. Drew is passionate about bringing finance and real estate to the under-served population in a way that fosters change in individuals, businesses, and communities.

Zach Sunderland, AIA, NCGC
Executive Director

As a licensed Architect and General Contractor, Zach leads Haven’s design and construction teams as well as managing overall operations and visioning for the firm at large. With an extensive background in the architecture and construction industry, he has worked on projects at every scale within multiple sectors. Zach is passionate about working alongside communities to create exceptional places to live, work, and play where each individual can flourish.

Kristen Kato
Operations Manager

Kristen came to Haven after a long career as a project and operations manager in the tech world. She leads Haven’s operations, supporting the team in streamlining and managing processes for everything from compliance to finance to subcontractor engagement. She loves helping Haven’s clients achieve their goals, whether that’s a kitchen renovation or a multi-family affordable housing complex, and she’s passionate about supporting small business owners in the local construction industry.

Staci Rodriguez
Construction Project Manager

Self-directed, collaborative, and highly-skilled professional comfortable in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and performance impact the bottom line. Organized and analytical; Provides comprehensive administrative support while managing general accounting and bookkeeping. Dedicated to integrity and transparency; committed to maintaining a collaborative and productive relationship with co-workers and customers.

Nina Jurac
Construction Project Manager

Nina has several years of experience within the Custom Luxury Home industry. Her keen eye for detail, strong organizational, and communication skills have been a key component of her success as a Project Manager. She is passionate about all aspects within the construction industry, but most particularly the design phase.

Sandy Stollenwerk
Construction Project Manager

Sandy has 15 years experience in the residential construction industry. She started off her career flipping houses and now enjoys being part of the building process from start to finish as a Project Manager. She is passionate about helping homeowners visualize their project and working together to make it a reality.

Dayle Barnes, AIA, LEED AP
Project Architect

Dayle brings almost 10 years of project experience to the Haven team. She has worked with several highly respected design firms both large and small. Her projects include historic renovations, commercial upfits, k-12 and multifamily housing. Dayle has a keen interest in small-scale residential and commercial design. She is passionate about improving the human experience through efficiency and quality of design.

John Durkee, Associate AIA
Architectural Designer

John Durkee is an inventor. He grew up sketching Seussian waffle-makers, damming streams, and has filed 16 patents to date. Durk received a classical education from the monks of St. Anselm’s Abbey, earned a BS in Architectural Engineering from CU Boulder, and an MArch from the NCSU College of Design. Durk is Haven’s ‘Sustainability Champion’, and applies his technical skills to quantifying and auditing Haven’s impact on the environment. Durk is deeply happy with architecture, since every project is a unique expression of its occupants and place.

Alec Schroeder
Site Supervisor

High energy, organized manager successful in building and motivating teams. Cultivates a company culture in which staff feels comfortable voicing questions and concerns, as well as contributing ideas that foster company growth and well being. Experienced in managing the Teamsters Union. Began career as a hard-working carpenter with more than ten years experience in the industry, completing projects quickly and efficiently, using excellent communication skills with clients and crew members.

John Coomes III
Site Supervisor

Results oriented, high-energy manager, successful in building and motivating dynamic teams. Proven track record of meeting and exceeding expectations. High degree of integrity and business acumen with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently across the entire organization.

Alex Mott
Site Supervisor

Alex has a wide variety of construction experience from rebuilding hurricane-damaged homes in the Caribbean to working as a carpenter for high-end contractors here in Durham, NC. He has a passion for energy efficient and sustainable construction technologies, and hopes to apply what he has learned to provide quality, affordable housing to communities in need here in the city. He has a wife, 2 dogs, and is living in a tiny house of his own in North Durham.

Craig White
Site Supervisor

Craig is experienced in residential rehabs; from project management to working on structural repairs in crawlspaces. He is enthusiastic about creating productive healthy job-sites where clients, management, vendors, and subcontractors can achieve a high quality product while thriving in their professions.
